Potassium borofluoride |
Name: |
Potassium borofluoride;Potassium fluoborate; Potassium fluoroborate;Potassium tetrafluoroborate |
Molecular formula: |
KBF4 |
Molecular weight : |
125.91 |
CAS NO.: |
14075-53-7 |
Use : |
As fluxing agent of explosive; also used in metallurgical industry and in the preparation of boron trifluoride etc. |
Toxicity and protection : |
Potassium borofluoride will release toxic boron trifluoride gas in temperature above its melting point. In the air, potassium borofluoride will be quickly hydrolyzed because of vapour, and will generate white smog which is irritating to skin, eye and lungs.
|
Packing and storage : |
In glass bottle with carton outside, 0.5kg/bottle. Should be stored in cool and dry place. Closed tight, avoid damage to the package; avoid rain, solarization and moisture.
|
Properties |
White powder or gelatinous crystal; no hygroscopicity; bitter taste. Relative density is 2.50. Melting point is 530 °C; slightly soluble in water and hot ethanol, insoluble in cold ethanol. It can be decomposed by strong acids into boron trifluoride. It is toxic! |
